The Southampton Old School Baptist Meetinghouse, surrounded by its Graveyard, has stood along Second Street Pike since 1731, yet few of the hundreds of people who drive past each day are familiar with its history.  It is no longer home to a religious congregation, but the building is used occassionally for concerts, weddings and community events.  The Meetinghouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, however, it receives no public funding; relying instead on a small endowment for basic maintenance.  In 2003, an architect specializing in historic restoration was asked to evaluate the site.  The list of work which needs to be done far exceeds the financial resources currently available.

The Friends of the Historic Southampton Old School Meetinghouse, a not-for-profit corporation unaffiliated with any religious organization, was established.  Our goals are to raise funds for the restoration and preservation of the site and to sponsor events and educational programs to increase community awareness and appreciation of this Southampton landmark.  We hope that you will consider joining us in this important work.  Please visit one of our Open House days to stroll through the cemetery, final resting place of many early settlers, including veterans of the American Revolution and the French and Indian Wars, and to enjoy the simple beauty and calm of the Meetinghouse.
